Overview

The University of Plymouth (UOP) is a public research university with its main site primarily in Plymouth, England, and it also has campuses and linked colleges all around South West England. The Plymouth School of Navigation was founded in 1862. After changing its name to Plymouth’s College of Technology in 1962, the School of Navigation received polytechnic status in 1970. After receiving university status in 1992, Plymouth Polytechnic changed its name to its current name. It has been awarded a Queen’s Anniversary prize three times. This award was only recently given to Plymouth University in recognition of its groundbreaking research into microplastics in 2019.

The Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Business, the Faculty of Science and Engineering, and the Faculty of Health are located on the main campus, usually referred to as the City Centre campus. The university’s Students’ Union calls it home as well. The City Center campus and Marine Station are both accessible on foot. The Faculty of Health is located on the North Plymouth campus. If a student wants to pursue a course in podiatry, occupational therapy, operating department practice, or dietetics, they can do it here.
